What is the duration
of the acting course?
The acting course at
Bombay Actors
Studio is of 6 months duration.
Why is it that most institutions offer
a 3 month acting course while Bombay Actors Studio has a 6 month course?
That is because we are
dedicated to teaching acting rather than running an acting school. We
strongly believe that even 6 months is less time to actually train an
actor, but to be competitive in the market, it was crucial to shorten
the length of the course while still preserving its most essential
elements.
Can a person learn
acting in 6 months?
Talent is something you
already possess. A teacher can only groom it and blossom it or help you
bring it out of yourself. Many great actors have taken years to gain
mastery over their art. It is only the dedication and discipline of an
actor to learn and practice which will make him a good actor. 6 months
would be the minimum amount of time required to groom an actor.
Does this course assure me work in the film/television industry?
No, we do not assure you any
assignments or work in any industry whatsoever. Most professional acting
schools the world over do not engage in this process. We can only teach
you the art, but it is for you to go out there and conquer your destiny.
Although, students are most welcome to ask for suggestions or advice
from teachers.
Is it necessary to learn all the subjects mentioned on the curriculum
page?
Yes, it is absolutely
necessary to learn all the subjects mentioned on the curriculum page.
Most of these subjects are the basic elements of learning acting, which
if not learnt or undertaken, cannot help the actor achieve what he/she
is here for. Some subjects like Dance and Action (Fights) are important
considering the requirements of the Film Industry(ies).
Can I professionally work alongside while undertaking the course?
There are many working
professionals who undertake the acting course while continuing with
their jobs/businesses alongside. We do not have anything against this,
except that we want them to give their 100% while in the class and
complete all the exercises and homework given to them, while maintaining
at least a 90% attendance level. Besides them, we strongly oppose
students taking up assignments or projects that require them to 'act' on
a professional or amateur level in any field - be it films,
advertisements, theatre or television. The ineptitude of the student due
to a lack of training would be demeaning for both the student and the
institution. Hence, please avoid any professional commitments during the
course.
What
is the course fees?
The course fees is subject to
change (for any course) without prior notice. Hence, please contact us
to know the exact details.
Will I be
made a show reel at the end of the course?
There will be video shoots of
scenes and monologues performed by the student actor. These recordings
will be made on VHS cassettes provided by the students. But these
recordings are not a show reel for the student. In the strict sense,
this is only a record for the student to know how much has he/she
progressed during the course, and for analysis of one's own performance.
Does Bombay Actors Studio provide for/with housing for students from
outside Mumbai?
As of now, we do not have any
arrangements for students' accommodations. It is the
responsibility of the students to provide for their own housing and
other requirements. But we do guide students upon where they can get
accommodation as per their requirements. We are here for your help and
we can suggest you places or people who can provide/help you getting
accommodation in Mumbai. Also,
students can contact ex-students of Bombay Actors Studio, (who are from outside
Mumbai) housing in the
city, or take assistance of their own batch mates who are willing to
help.
