Our Associate - Shashi Ranjan |
Producer, director Shashi Rajnan is an alumnus from the highly renowned Film &
TV Institute of India, where he learnt the art of Acting from the Maha Guru, Shri
Roshan Taneja. Today, he is the moving spirit behind the Indian Television Academy,
the only body of Television in the country. He is also publisher of GR8! TV Mag,
the world's first and today, the foremost TV-Glossy. |
A scion of an educationists' family, Shashi broke away from the family discipline
to make it in the entertainment world. Being highly presentable and oozing a sparkling
persona, he wanted to channel his fizz and frivolity into being an actor. And that
landed him at the FTII. |
Mr. Shashi Ranjan |
After graduating from the Institute, he mingled with Mumbai's tinsel world.
A stint of ad-films and features films later, he decided to go into producing and
made the critically acclaimed Siyasat (1993), starring Kumar Gaurav and Kimi Katkar. |
His tryst with Cinema has continued with having produced and directed the
thought-provoking, 'Dobara' (2005), starring Jackie Shroff, Raveena Tandon and Mahima
Chaudhary and the frothy comedy, 'Dhoom Dadakka' (2008), starring Shaad Randhawa,
Aarti Chhabria, Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik etc. |
It was around this time that he got seized of the power and potential of Television
as the future of entertainment in the country. And he took to it like a fish takes
to water ending up producing such hit shows like Shot-Gun Shoot, Guftagoo with Javed
Akhtar, Without Make-up with Mahesh Bhatt, Making of a Legend, Baatein Urdu ki,
Song Yatra and so on for various channels, besides international projects like Driving
Miss Palmen for the Dutch Television. |
However, his crowning glory in the realm of Television is the ITA and GR8!
that have done a yeoman's service to the TV-fraternity over the years with the ITA
Awards, the GR8! Women Awards and various Seminars for the disparate sectors of
the industry to come on one platform to sort out their contentions issues.
Today, the ITA and GR8! are the biggest arms of the TV-industry, having won
implicit and unflinching trust of the entire fraternity and Shashi along with wife
Anu Ranjan (President, The ITA and Editor, GR8!) has an ever-increasing goodwill
in here. |
It is this goodwill of the TV as well as Film Industry that he brings to the
Roshan Taneja Foundation For Performing Arts by way of his association with it.
It translates into a wealth of benefits for the students coming to learn the ropes
of Acting, here. |
He has led the Foundation into many a tie-up with pre-eminent TV & Film Producers
for their choosing to employ the talent trained from here in their productions.
That means strong and fruitful references for the students and also opportunities
to have first hand experience of Events and shootings. |
Being in association with his Guru and bringing the entire spectrum of the ITA &
GR8! to their combined endeavour, is a matter of pride for him. Says he. |
'This is really coming the full circle for me. The once seeker of the art
of acting is now creating opportunities for other seekers of the same and that too
hand-in-glove with his own illustrious teacher. well, it is the most fulfilling
experience for me! And from the deepest recesses of my heart along with Taneja Sahib
I wish to create a whole new rainbow of trained talent for the industry!'
